Donald Mercer Cormie
Donald Mercer Cormie was a lawyer and financier.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/vancouversun/obituary.aspx?page=notice&pid=141659372 )〕 Cormie was the President and founder of one of Canada's largest investment firms, Principal Group. He built the company to more than $1 billion of assets. However, the company went into receivership in 1987 as a result of the loss of investment value after the Canadian recession.
Cormie was a Merchant Marine from 1943-44 before receiving his LLM from Harvard Law in 1946.〔 He co-founded the law firm Cormie Kennedy in 1954 and had a prestigious legal career.〔
Cormie was the founder of Cormie Ranch, a 22 thousand acre purebred cattle ranch near Tomahawk, Alberta.〔 At its peak in the 1980s, it was the largest multi-breed purebred cattle ranch in Canada and the largest private bull semen bank in the world, developing sought after bulls in the Simmental and Maine-Anjou breeds and earning $3.3 million from its prize bull, Signal.
